While the mixture is boiling I put the jars, lids and rings in a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Once it starts to boil I turn the heat off and let the jars sit in the water until I am ready to use them. If you pour the jam into the jars cold the glass will break.
Remove the stems
Cut the figs in fourths
In a medium sized pot combine the figs, sugar and jello
Bring to a slow boil over medium to medium-high heat
When the mixture starts to boil, smash the figs with a fork or masher
Once a rapid boil starts, reduce the heat and simmer for 10minutes
Stir constantly to prevent sticking and burning
The mixture is good and done when a small drop is sticking to the end of the spoon.
