Letter to our seniors

We at the Parks Department are excited to bring new and exciting events just for the seniors in our community!

The Parks & Rec Dept offers regular programming including fitness classes and games at the Elgin Rec Center.

We know that you aren't "seniors" but rather, active older adults, so we hope this programming reflects that!

We look forward to spending time with you!

The Elgin Parks & Recreation Department

Stay in shape at the Elgin Rec Center!

Monday through Friday, join us from 8:00AM-10:00AM for Wildcat Walkers! During this time you'll be able to utilize the gym exclusively for doing laps in a climate controlled space. When you reach 100miles of laps in the gym, you'll win a free shirt!

We also offer a number of fitness opportunities geared towards our active older adults including:

 - Beginner Yoga on Mondays from 9AM - 10AM. This class combines movement, balance and stretching. Participants are welcome to use a chair as necessary.

 - Mind, Body & Spirit on Wednesdays from 9AM - 10AM. This class combines movement, stretching and mental focus.

 - Senior Aerobics once a week on Fridays from 9AM - 10AM. In this class you'll do a mix of cardio, balance practice and toning exercises.

Elgin Memorial Park May 1st - May 20th, 2022

Yarn Bomb the Park

May 1st, 2022 - May 20th, 2022  |  Elgin Memorial Park Bollards

To support the Elgin Arts & Culture event on Saturday, May 21st, Elgin Parks & Recreation invites everyone of all skill levels to Yarn Bomb the Park by decorating the bollards in Elgin Memorial Park. This project is geared towards all ages and creativity levels. Everyone can decorate a bollard to bring brightness and joy to park goers!

1.) Sign up:

2.) Pick a bollard in Elgin Memorial Park, 361 N HWY 95.

3.) Knit, crochet, or weave your family friendly bollard decoration.

4.) Put up your decoration between May 1st and May 20th.

What is "Yarn Bombing"? Yarn bombing is part street art, part graffiti, and part activism, which combines the seemingly “cute” and comforting elements of knitting and crocheting, with the revolutionary and mild civil disobedience of graffiti / “tagging” of public objects, in order to make some sort of artistic statement.
