Join us to come up with new ideas for Parks & Rec events and activities that cater specifically to teens and young adults in the community and work as a team to flesh out ideas in to workable events including: budget, itinerary, scheduling and supplies.
We are looking for motivated, responsible teens/young adults who are interested in helping Parks & Rec create content who are organized and creative. You must be able to meet for 2 hours twice a month and more often as event planning is in full swing
You will receive community service hours, reference letters (if applicable) and gain valuable work experience.

GIANT TENNIS -- Kickoff Spring Break with some outdoor fun! We'll provide the giant rackets and tennis balls, all you have to do is register online.
ART CLASS -- Owner of Clever Tiger Art Gallery, Ashley Smith, will be teaching an art class this Spring Break. Event fee is $10 per participant, all supplies included, but if you buy your registration before January 15th, it's only $5 per person.
COMMUNITY FIELD DAY -- Enjoy some fun in the sun with a classic field day. We'll be grilling hot dogs and competing against other members of the community in three-legged race, egg toss, tug-of-war, and more.
CATCH AND RELEASE FISHING -- Come participate in catch and release fishing at Morris Memorial Park! We will have a limited number of poles and bait to borrow as well as a station for learning how to tie knots and identify the fish available in the pond.
PARK BEAUTIFICATION DAY -- Bring your friends and come beautify the Fleming Community Center grounds just in time for Spring and the Pool Season. We'll be planting flowers, picking up trash, playing games and having lunch.
Join us for our annual, free, live-music series, Music in the Park! Every Friday in April The Friends of Elgin Parks will host a different band. Be sure to bring your friends and family, beverages, snacks, blanket or lawn chair to enjoy this event to its fullest.

TRASH ART CONTEST
To reframe how we see trash and to keep Elgin beautiful, the Parks Dept is hosting a Trash Art Contest. Everyone, child to adult is encouraged to participate in one of our age brackets for our contest to see who can best turn trash in to treasure! You can create a collage, sculpture, jewelry, whatever your heart desires so long as it is made from 90%+ recycled materials.
Please turn in all entries to the Rec Center by 5:00PM Saturday, August 31st for display at the Rec until the following Saturday.
Winners will be announced during the Community Clean Up Day in Elgin Memorial Park on Saturday, Sept 7th at 10:00AM.

This Spring/Summer season we have tons of exciting new programs in store for you that are sure to appeal to every age. We hope that you'll join us in our parks and facilities to spend time with our community. We will be adding classes to the Rec Center that will be included in your membership, as well as more targeted senior and young adult programming. With your help we will strive to create and host the most relevant and interesting programming possible.
