A Healthier, Stronger Elgin: Economic Development in Motion

    October 21, 2025

Only 19 miles east of the growing metropolitan area of Austin, TX, Elgin benefits from all the amenities of a major city. Matching convenient access to a multitude of services for an increasing population is a priority for community leaders.

The Elgin City Council and the Elgin Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Board of Directors have outlined ambitious goals to guide those efforts.

    EDC Focus

With a mission to drive job growth and expand the tax base by supporting business attraction, retention, and expansion, the EDC focuses on workforce development, shovel-ready sites, and providing strategic resources to help businesses grow in Elgin. A few of those initiatives are listed below.

    Future Business Park

The EDC seeks to acquire large tracts of land to develop and recruit new industrial businesses to the community. The goal is to proactively attract new businesses and provide expansion opportunities for existing ones by ensuring sites are development-ready. The current Elgin Business Park only has around 35 acres of land still available, with three businesses under construction and one business fully operational.

    Expanding Business Retention Efforts

To support existing employers, the EDC aims to ensure local businesses have the tools and resources needed for long-term success.

    Expanding Healthcare Services

Recognizing the growing need for local healthcare, the EDC is in ongoing discussions to secure expanded medical services and engagement with new healthcare providers and developers. The EDC is also exploring incentives and creative partnerships to bring new healthcare facilities to the community.

    Ascension Seton’s Expanding Care

The expansion of healthcare access has received significant momentum of late. Behind strategic and targeted efforts by local leaders, the growing population of Elgin can expect increased access to healthcare providers in the near future.

The EDC has been working diligently with existing provider Ascension Seton to expand its services. For one, it now boasts a board-certified family medicine physician available Monday through Friday, ensuring regular access to routine check-ups, vaccinations and preventative care. The clinic also added a full-time advanced practice provider to support primary care operations and a lab technician to work weekdays.

Newly-added specialists at Ascension Seton include comprehensive mental health services with licensed counselors, psychiatrists and psychologists through its behavioral health department. A visiting cardiologist visits the site every other week, with plans to expand to every week and possibly full-time on-site. Ascension Seton is also interviewing for a full-time pediatrician and hopes to fill a full-time OBGYN position, with current access every other week.

Additionally, Ascension Seton plans to open a flu and vaccine center this fall, expand its hours of operation outside regular business hours, and partner with local colleges to recruit talent.

    Additional Healthcare Expansion in Elgin

Along with Ascension Seton, other healthcare providers are eyeing Elgin as a new home. The Elgin EDC Healthcare Update outlines items such as the Austin Regional Clinic and Integrity Urgent Care property purchases in the community.

Integrity will provide Elgin’s community with fast, affordable treatment for a wide variety of non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. Its Elgin location will offer occupational medicine, sports medicine, STI screening and treatment, lab testing and diagnostic testing. X-ray and EKG machine service will be available on-site.

    More of Elgin’s Quality Healthcare

Elgin’s healthcare landscape, with more options on the way, is diverse and robust, ensuring residents don’t have to travel far for quality service. At Family Health Center, Community Health Centers of South Central Texas Inc. offers primary care, counseling and other healthcare needs, while WellMed also has an Elgin branch.

Elgin Pediatrics, a collaboration of five independent pediatric primary care practices, serves Elgin's children. Elgin Physical Therapy has been a staple of the community’s healthcare lineup since 2000, while patients of all ages and backgrounds can find drug-free pain relief at Elgin Chiropractic.

    Continued Recruitment

Elgin EDC is committed to expanding residential healthcare access by recruiting providers such as primary care, urgent care, freestanding emergency, and specialty clinics, as well as by encouraging development in the area. The team maintains contact with health systems and independent groups, sharing growth data, site options, and demand indicators. Efforts include partnering with developers on shell-space medical build-outs, collaborating with Ascension Seton to market nearby land, and engaging real estate brokers specializing in healthcare.
