CureFast Urgent Care Brings More Healthcare Access to Elgin, TX

For a growing community 30 minutes outside Austin, access to healthcare can still require a trip into the city. Elgin recently took a step toward changing that with the opening of CureFast Urgent Care, a locally operated facility designed to make care more accessible.
The need is clear. Elgin is a federally designated primary care shortage area, according to Dr. Hayan Yacoub, the physician behind CureFast. Elgin has seen a 42% population growth since 2020, while healthcare options had not kept pace. Before CureFast opened, residents had no seven-day healthcare facility in the community. CureFast is part of the response, not the end of it.
CureFast opened in five months
CureFast moved from an idea to an operating urgent care facility in about five months. The clinic is open seven days a week and provides after-hours care, giving residents another option when their regular provider is unavailable or when traveling to Austin is difficult.
“Kaley [Frye], [the Director of Economic Development] at the EDC, she's top-notch. She's like, what do you need? Let me help with this. Let me do this. Let me connect you with these people. Honestly, everything went very smoothly through the city because of the support of the community,” said Dr. Yacoub.
The facility offers urgent care services supported by services and on-site equipment including:
- X-ray technology
- EKG equipment
- Workers’ compensation services
- Care for a wide range of urgent medical needs
The clinic currently employs seven people, most of whom live in Elgin. That local connection has helped build trust with residents and keeps more healthcare spending within the community.
“For healthcare, Elgin residents were spending money for healthcare across the highway to Austin. Now the money is staying in Elgin,” Dr. Yacoub said.
Local care supports community growth
Healthcare access also plays a role in how communities attract residents and businesses. Employers and prospective residents consider available healthcare services when deciding where to locate, work, or raise a family.
CureFast is in network with most commercial insurance plans and with Medicare and Medicaid, with a few remaining plans expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.. Yacoub said the decision reflects the clinic’s focus on serving the community rather than limiting care based on insurance coverage.
The clinic also operates around five core values: respect, integrity, trust, quality, and compassion. Those values reflect CureFast’s goal of building long-term relationships with patients in Elgin and surrounding communities.
“We want to be the place to go to in Elgin and the neighboring communities, and again, we want to earn their trust, one patient encounter at a time,” Dr. Yacoub said.
CureFast plans to expand primary care access
The opening of CureFast addresses an immediate gap, but the clinic also sees opportunities to provide additional services.
Dr. Yacoub said CureFast wants to raise awareness among local employers about its workers’ compensation services, giving businesses another local option when employees need treatment for workplace injuries.
The clinic also hopes to add primary care services. Staff already see patients managing chronic conditions who do not have a regular physician, including residents who need ongoing care for conditions such as high blood pressure.
